Update: Lenovo’s US store currently lists the Googlebook 15 at $1,149.99, despite Lenovo’s official press release stating a $1,099.99 starting price. Lenovo has not yet clarified whether the lower price is a preorder promotion or the laptop’s permanent starting price.

The Lenovo Googlebook 15 just got a lot more interesting — and it happened before the laptop has even officially launched.

Lenovo has confirmed that its first Googlebook will start at $1,099.99, cutting $200 from the $1,299 price previously announced for the laptop. The change comes just days before the Lenovo Googlebook 15 is scheduled to officially go on sale on October 4.

This isn’t a retailer discount or a temporary launch promotion. Lenovo’s latest official announcement now lists $1,099.99 as the starting price for the Googlebook 15.

That’s a pretty significant change for a laptop that hasn’t even reached store shelves yet.

The $1,299 Googlebook 15 is now a $1,099.99 laptop

When Googlebook was first announced, Lenovo’s model sat at the top of the initial lineup with a starting price of $1,299. That made the Googlebook 15 a distinctly premium proposition, particularly when the first wave of Googlebooks started at $899.

Now Lenovo has quietly changed that equation.

Its latest September 28 announcement confirms that the Googlebook 15 will start at $1,099.99 when it launches on October 4. In other words, Lenovo has lowered the starting price by exactly $200 from the previously announced $1,299 figure.

That’s about a 15% reduction in the original starting price, which is hardly the kind of adjustment you would normally expect to see just before a new laptop launches.

And there’s an important distinction here: Best Buy isn’t giving the Googlebook 15 a special $200 discount. Its $1,099 listing is now broadly in line with Lenovo’s corrected official starting price.

Google’s own store pricing can still differ, with regional and retailer pricing subject to change, but Lenovo’s latest announcement gives us the number that matters most: $1,099.99 is now the official starting price.

Lenovo didn’t exactly cheap out on the hardware

The lower price is particularly interesting because the Googlebook 15 hasn’t suddenly become a less ambitious laptop.

Lenovo’s first Googlebook is still a 15.3-inch machine with a 2.8K OLED touchscreen, a 120Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 color coverage. It’s powered by an Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor with built-in Gemini Intelligence and can be configured with up to 32GB of LPDDR5x memory and up to 512GB of SSD storage.

The laptop also weighs under 3 pounds, which is a rather nice trick for something with a 15.3-inch display.

Lenovo says the Googlebook 15 starts at 1.29kg and includes a 70Wh battery rated for more than 12.5 hours under its testing conditions. There’s also a haptic touchpad, quad speakers with Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI 2.0, a fingerprint reader, facial authentication and a physical camera shutter.

So the $200 change isn’t coming with an obvious hardware downgrade attached to it.

And this is still very much a Googlebook

The hardware is only part of what makes the Lenovo model interesting.

Googlebook is Google’s attempt to move beyond the traditional Chromebook concept with a more capable laptop platform built around Google‘s Android ecosystem and Gemini Intelligence. The Lenovo Googlebook 15 is one of the first machines to show what that idea looks like in actual premium laptop hardware.

Lenovo is leaning heavily into Google’s AI features, including Magic Pointer, which lets users activate Gemini through the cursor for contextual actions. The laptop also supports deeper connections with Android phones, allowing users to access apps and files from a connected phone and move between devices more naturally.

Then there’s Rambler, Lenovo’s voice-to-text feature that can remove filler words and automatically add formatting while you dictate.

That could make the Googlebook 15 particularly interesting for people who spend their day jumping between writing, research, communication and other productivity tasks.

Lenovo is also including 12 months of Google AI Pro with the laptop for eligible buyers. That includes expanded Gemini features and 5TB of cloud storage, along with access to several creative applications.

The value proposition, then, isn’t simply a $1,099 laptop with a big OLED screen. Lenovo and Google are trying to sell the whole Googlebook experience around it.

The price change makes the Googlebook 15 much harder to ignore

The original $1,299 price put the Lenovo Googlebook 15 in a fairly crowded part of the premium laptop market.

At $1,099.99, the conversation changes.

You’re still spending more than the $899 starting price of the Acer Googlebook 14, but you’re getting a significantly larger 15.3-inch OLED display and a laptop that weighs less than 3 pounds. The Lenovo also sits below the $1,299 starting prices attached to some of the other first-generation Googlebook models.

That makes the Lenovo model an unusual middle ground in the launch lineup.

It isn’t the entry-level Googlebook, but it no longer carries the $1,299 price that originally made it the most expensive option in the first wave.

And that’s why this price correction matters more than a normal $200 laptop sale.

A temporary discount can disappear. Lenovo’s latest pricing information changes the baseline.

Googlebook’s launch pricing just got more complicated

The broader Googlebook lineup is already an interesting experiment for Google.

The first generation includes laptops from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, with different approaches to processors, displays, designs and pricing. The Lenovo model was originally positioned at $1,299, but its new $1,099.99 starting price changes how the lineup looks just before launch.

It also raises an obvious question: why did the price change?

Lenovo’s latest announcement doesn’t provide an explanation for the $200 difference. The company simply lists the new $1,099.99 starting price under its pricing and availability information.

So there isn’t much point in inventing a reason.

What we know is that the previous $1,299 figure has been replaced by a $1,099.99 official starting price. What we don’t know is why Lenovo made the adjustment so close to launch.

For buyers, however, the reason may matter less than the result.

The Lenovo Googlebook 15 now starts at $1,099.99

The Lenovo Googlebook 15 will officially launch on October 4, and Lenovo now says it will start at $1,099.99.

That’s $200 less than the price we had been expecting.

For anyone who has been following Google’s new laptop platform since its announcement, this is a surprisingly big change — especially because it arrives before launch day rather than months into the product’s life.

And it means the Lenovo Googlebook 15 that arrives in stores next week isn’t quite the laptop we were originally told to expect.

Same 15.3-inch OLED display. Same Intel Core Ultra 5 platform. Same Gemini Intelligence features. Same lightweight design.

Just a considerably smaller number on the price tag.
