Spider-Noir has officially reached the end of the road. Prime Video has canceled the Nicolas Cage-led Marvel series after a single season, ending the live-action Spider-Man Noir story just a few months after its debut.

TheWrap reports that Amazon-owned Prime Video has decided not to renew the series for Season 2. The cancellation comes a little more than three months after Spider-Noir premiered in late May.

The decision is notable because Spider-Noir was hardly an unnoticed experiment. The series earned 11 Emmy nominations in 2026, more than any other Prime Video series that year, while Nielsen reported that it accumulated 2.6 billion viewing minutes during its first six weeks.

Still, those numbers were not enough to secure another season.

Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man story ends here

Cage returned to the role of Spider-Man Noir after first voicing the character in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. This time, however, the character was brought into live action as Ben Reilly, a struggling private investigator operating in 1930s New York.

The series followed Ben as he dealt with a deeply personal tragedy and confronted his past as the city’s mysterious and seemingly lone superhero. Its Depression-era setting gave the familiar Spider-Man mythology a very different flavor, leaning heavily into detective fiction, period crime drama and classic film noir.

Cage was joined by Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson. The creative team included co-showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who developed the series alongside Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and producer Amy Pascal.

The show’s visual identity was another major part of its appeal. Spider-Noir could be watched in both black-and-white and color, giving its comic-book world an unusually stylized presentation that matched the character’s pulp-inspired origins.

A cancellation that comes despite major recognition

The timing makes the cancellation particularly striking.

Spider-Noir entered the 2026 Emmy race with 11 nominations, putting it among the most recognized Prime Video productions of the year. It also reportedly maintained substantial streaming activity, reaching 2.6 billion viewing minutes over its first six weeks.

The series also received a 92% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, according to Variety, suggesting that its cancellation was not simply a response to a broadly negative reception.

That makes the decision a reminder that streaming renewals are about more than awards attention or raw viewing figures. A series’ production costs, audience size, completion rates and broader strategic value can all factor into whether a streamer decides that another season makes financial sense.

Nicolas Cage is ready to move on

Cage himself appears comfortable with the series ending where it did.

Following the cancellation, the actor said that, for him, one season was enough and that he felt he had said what he wanted to say with the character. He described the series as an innovative take on Spider-Man and signaled that he was ready to move forward.

That attitude may make the cancellation slightly easier for fans to accept. Rather than ending with the expectation that another season is necessary to complete the story, Spider-Noir can now stand as a single-season experiment built around Cage’s particular interpretation of the character.

It is also a fittingly unusual chapter for a character that has always existed outside the traditional Spider-Man mold.

Sony and Amazon’s Marvel partnership isn’t over

Although Spider-Noir is finished, Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are not walking away from their collaboration on Marvel-related stories.

TheWrap reports that the two companies intend to continue developing stories based on Marvel characters and have already identified the next project in the partnership.

That means the cancellation should not be interpreted as the end of Amazon’s ambitions around Spider-Man-related television. Instead, Spider-Noir appears to have been one chapter in a larger experiment.

For now, though, there will be no Season 2 for Cage’s version of the character. After eight episodes, the 1930s Spider-Man Noir story has become a one-season curiosity: a visually distinctive, Emmy-recognized Marvel series that arrived with considerable ambition and disappeared just as quickly.
