Samsung just dropped a save-the-date on us, and if you’ve been paying attention to the rumor mill lately, this one’s been a long time coming. The company confirmed it’s holding a “Galaxy Event” on August 27, and this time the spotlight isn’t on foldables or another flagship refresh – it’s on the newest member of the Galaxy S26 family.
The invitation itself is pretty light on specifics, which is classic Samsung. The official teaser says the event will introduce “the newest addition to the Galaxy S26 family,” built to bring the camera and AI chops of the Galaxy S26 series – along with the latest version of One UI – to people who care about what matters most to them. That’s marketing-speak for a phone that isn’t the Ultra, S26, or S26+, all of which already launched earlier this year. The livestream kicks off at 9 pm Korea Standard Time on August 27, which works out to a morning show for folks on the East Coast – so no need to set an alarm for the middle of the night this time. You’ll be able to catch it live on Samsung’s website or its YouTube channel.
So what phone is this, exactly
Given the timing and the phrasing, all signs point to the Galaxy S26 FE – Samsung’s “Fan Edition” phone that trims some premium features to hit a friendlier price point without giving up the core experience. Samsung has followed this playbook before: launch the flagship trio in the spring, then circle back in late summer or early fall with the FE model for shoppers who want flagship-adjacent hardware without flagship-adjacent pricing.
And honestly, the leaks have been coming in hot. A recent report suggests the S26 FE could be officially unveiled around September 1, with a wider retail rollout following in September or October, which lines up neatly with an August 27 teaser announcement as the formal kickoff. Design-wise, tipsters say to expect the phone in Blueberry, Graphite, and Pistachio color options, keeping the familiar flat-frame Galaxy S26 look but with a slightly reworked, raised camera housing on the back.
If the leaks hold up, here’s roughly what you’re looking at under the hood: a 6.7-inch Full HD+ display running at up to 120Hz, Samsung’s own Exynos 2500 chip built on a 3nm process, 8GB of RAM, and a 4,900mAh battery with 45W wired charging. That Exynos 2500 is actually a meaningful upgrade over the Exynos 2400 that powered the last two FE models, and it’s paired with an Xclipse 950 GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture. Samsung is also reportedly boosting battery efficiency enough to claim a 50-hour rating on a single charge, up from around 42 hours on last year’s model.
Camera-wise, expect a familiar 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide, and an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, though the main camera reportedly gains an 8K video recording mode this time around, an upgrade from the previous model’s 4K cap. It should also come with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, seven years of promised OS updates, and Android 17 with One UI 9 right out of the box.
What about pricing
Nothing is official yet, but a European pricing leak points to roughly 799 euros, 899 euros, and 1,099 euros for the 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage tiers, respectively. Translated to typical US pricing patterns, that could shake out to somewhere around $699, $849, and $1,049, though that’s an estimate rather than anything confirmed. One report even suggests a modest price bump versus last year’s S25 FE, which started at 750 euros for its base configuration.
It’s easy to shrug off a “budget flagship” launch when there’s so much flashier stuff happening in tech right now, but the FE line has quietly become one of Samsung’s smartest moves. It’s the phone Samsung points to when people say flagship prices have gotten out of hand, giving buyers most of the Galaxy S26 experience – the AI features, the camera performance, the build quality – without the four-figure price tag of the Ultra. For a company that just wrapped up a foldable-focused Unpacked event in London back in July with the Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra, and Z Flip8, this August event feels like Samsung filling in the last gap in its 2026 lineup before turning attention to whatever comes next year.
We’ll know for sure what’s inside the box come August 27, but if the leaks are even half right, this could be one of the more compelling value plays Samsung has put out in a while.
