Samsung is widening its official refurbished push in the US by adding the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 to its Certified Re-Newed program, giving buyers a lower-cost way into its latest foldables without leaving Samsung’s own retail channel. The company announced the move on April 22 and said both phones will be sold exclusively through Samsung.com in like-new condition at reduced prices.

That is the part that makes this launch more interesting than a standard resale listing. Samsung says every Certified Re-Newed phone is serviced by Samsung specialists, repaired with 100% genuine Samsung parts, fitted with a certified new battery, and backed by a one-year limited warranty, while its retail page says the devices also go through inspection, cleaning, and software updating before they go back on sale.

The pricing is where the offer starts to make practical sense for shoppers who have been curious about foldables but hesitant to spend full flagship money. Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold7 Certified Re-Newed starts at $1,699 for the 256GB model, while the Galaxy Z Flip7 Certified Re-Newed starts at $939 for 256GB, and Samsung’s product listing for the Fold7 shows it as an unlocked device.

Samsung is also sweetening the deal with trade-ins, which is usually where these offers become more realistic for people already sitting on an older phone. The company says buyers can save up to $580 on a Certified Re-Newed Galaxy Z Fold7 or Z Flip7 when they trade in a qualifying device, although Samsung notes that the offer is limited-time and subject to its trade-in terms.

From a product angle, Samsung is still positioning the two phones for very different buyers. The company describes the Galaxy Z Fold7 as its thinnest and lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet, with an 8-inch main display built for productivity and a more tablet-like multitasking experience, while the Galaxy Z Flip7 is pitched as the more compact and pocket-friendly option with a FlexWindow cover screen and a camera experience designed around flexible shooting angles.

There is also a bigger strategy sitting behind this announcement. Samsung says it first added Galaxy Z devices to the Certified Re-Newed lineup last year, and it frames this year’s expansion as a way to give customers more access to foldables while extending the life of Galaxy devices. The company also says both phones continue its use of recycled materials across a range of components.

That sustainability angle matters because refurbished phones are no longer just a budget play – they are becoming part of how major brands keep premium hardware in circulation longer. Counterpoint Research said mature markets such as the US, Europe, and Japan saw flat to modest growth in pre-owned smartphone sales in the first half of 2025, but those same markets are leaning further into circular-economy practices and stronger certified pre-owned programs.

Samsung is clearly trying to separate its program from the uncertainty that still follows the word “refurbished.” On its Certified Re-Newed page, the company says these phones differ from typical used or third-party refurbished devices because they come with genuine Samsung parts, a certified new battery, a one-year warranty, and the latest software updates. In simple terms, Samsung wants buyers to feel like they are purchasing an officially restored Galaxy, not gambling on a phone with an unknown repair history.

The after-sales story is part of that reassurance too. Samsung says Certified Re-Newed smartphones are eligible for Samsung Care+, and its support page describes that protection as covering unlimited drops, spills, and mechanical breakdowns, with Theft and Loss coverage available on eligible plans. For foldables in particular, that kind of backup is not a small detail, because durability concerns still come up more often in this category than they do with standard slab phones.

What Samsung is really selling here is confidence. These are still premium-priced devices, but the company is using warranty coverage, official parts, battery replacement, and trade-in savings to make the foldable category feel less risky and more reachable. For shoppers who like the idea of a foldable but have been waiting for a safer entry point, Samsung’s Certified Re-Newed push now looks a lot more like a serious buying route than a niche side program.
