How to stream the new ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ series

Got a couch, a screen, and half an hour to spare, that’s pretty much all it takes to finally start ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith.’

If you’ve just heard people raving about the new Mr. & Mrs. Smith and you’re wondering how, where, and what exactly you need to watch it, the short answer is: it’s a Prime Video show, and Season 1 is already streaming in full. The series is an Amazon Original, so you won’t find it on Netflix, Disney+, or any other major service—if you want this version with Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, you’re heading to Prime Video.

First, a quick reset on what this Mr. & Mrs. Smith actually is. It’s a reimagining of the 2005 Brad Pitt–Angelina Jolie movie, but instead of a suburban married couple secretly working as rival assassins, the series starts with two total strangers who sign up to be spies for a mysterious agency. Their cover identities are “John” and “Jane” Smith; they’re placed in an arranged marriage, and each episode throws them into a new mission while they’re still figuring out things like boundaries, trust, and whether they actually like each other. Tonally, it sits at the intersection of espionage thriller and relationship dramedy—expect sleek action, awkward dates, tense arguments, and some very expensive-looking locations in each of the eight episodes.

The main draw for a lot of people is the cast and creative team. Donald Glover (Atlanta, Swarm) not only stars as John Smith but also co-created the show with Francesca Sloane, who has written on Atlanta and Fargo. Maya Erskine, best known for PEN15, plays Jane Smith, and the season is peppered with buzzy guest stars in various missions, from neighbors to fellow operatives. Behind the camera, directors like Hiro Murai—who helped define Atlanta’s look—give the series a very specific visual identity: cool, moody, and cinematic rather than “just another TV spy show.” It’s also not some niche experiment; the show has picked up strong critical attention, with major awards recognition including multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominations in drama categories.

Now, the practical part: how do you actually watch it? Mr. & Mrs. Smith streams exclusively on Prime Video, which is Amazon’s video platform available in more than 240 countries and territories. To get in, you either need an Amazon Prime membership or a standalone Prime Video subscription, depending on what’s offered in your region. In the U.S., Prime typically runs around $14.99 a month or $139 a year and includes Prime Video along with all the usual shipping and shopping perks, while some regions let you subscribe just to Prime Video at a lower price. If you’re just testing the waters and only curious about this show, you can usually start with a free trial, binge the eight episodes, and then decide whether you want to keep the subscription going.

Watch on Prime Video

Season 1 is already complete and fully available, which makes it very binge-friendly—no waiting week to week, just eight episodes you can pace however you like. A second season is in the works, with Mark Eydelshteyn set to star and Anna Ouyang Moench stepping in as showrunner, joining Donald Glover and others as executive producers. That means if you jump in now, you’ll be caught up and ready whenever Season 2 lands, instead of trying to rush through it later while dodging spoilers online.

One last thing to keep in mind: there are multiple Mr. & Mrs. Smith options floating around, and they’re not interchangeable. The 2005 movie is available on various platforms, including rental and subscription services like Netflix in some regions, but that’s a standalone two-hour film with a very different tone, cast, and storyline. The 2024 series, by contrast, leans into long-form storytelling; each episode is built around a mission that doubles as a relationship test, and the show spends real time on awkward silences, small resentments, and the thrill of realizing your fake spouse might not be so fake anymore. If that’s the version you’re after—the slow-burn spy romance where Donald Glover and Maya Erskine play strangers-turned-partners—make sure you’re pressing play on the Prime Video series, not just rewatching the film and wondering where all the episodes went.
