As the nation gears up for the annual frenzy of the NCAA basketball tournament, YouTube TV is giving its subscribers a new way to keep up with all the action on the go. The streaming service’s multiview feature, which allows users to watch up to four programs simultaneously, has finally arrived on iPhones and iPads.
The multi-stream capability, which had previously been limited to larger TV screens, promises to be a game-changer for sports fans looking to follow multiple March Madness games at once while away from their living rooms. With a simple update to the latest version of the YouTube TV app, iPhone and iPad users can now access pre-selected multiview options, making it easier than ever to catch every clutch shot and buzzer-beater.
The feature’s arrival on iOS and iPadOS devices comes as a relief for Apple users, who had been forced to watch enviously as their Android counterparts enjoyed multi-stream viewing on larger screens. However, YouTube TV has confirmed that the Android roll-out will happen “in the coming months,” leaving its own mobile users temporarily on the sidelines.
While the multiview option is currently limited to pre-selected sports events, YouTube TV has hinted at plans to expand the feature’s customizability in the future. For now, though, basketball fans will have to make do with the curated streams on offer, which should still provide a vast improvement over the single-screen viewing experience of years past.
In addition to the mobile multiview rollout, YouTube TV has also given its TV app a fresh coat of paint, redesigning the player layout to better showcase live scores and stats. These quality-of-life improvements, coupled with the service’s robust channel lineup, seem primed to cement YouTube TV’s position as a premier destination for cable-cutting sports fans.
