Creating a YouTube video is no longer just about recording, editing, and uploading. Creators have to figure out what topics are working, how to structure a video, which thumbnail to use, and whether older content still has a chance to find a new audience.

YouTube is now adding more tools to Studio that are designed to help with exactly those decisions. The company describes the update as creating a “personalized Studio team” for creators, with features covering everything from researching new ideas to improving existing videos.

The new tools are coming to YouTube Studio across the web and mobile, with several of them centered around AI-assisted feedback and experimentation.

YouTube Studio can now give feedback on your videos

One of the more useful additions is a new feedback feature in YouTube Studio. Once a creator has a draft ready, Studio can provide personalized suggestions covering areas such as pacing, structure, and storytelling.

That could make Studio more than a place to upload a finished video. Instead, creators can use it as another step in the editing process, getting feedback before publishing rather than waiting to see how an audience responds.

YouTube is also expanding the research side of Studio. New Insights and Research destinations are designed to help creators understand how their previous videos performed and identify outlier videos that could inspire their next piece of content.

That combination is particularly interesting because it connects past performance with the next video. Rather than simply looking at views after a video is published, creators can use their existing channel data to find patterns and potential ideas.

AI can help choose thumbnails for different audiences

YouTube is also giving creators more ways to experiment with thumbnails.

The new tools can generate thumbnails that match a channel’s existing style, while a feature called Dynamic Thumbnails can recommend different thumbnail options to different segments of an audience.

The idea is relatively simple: instead of assuming that one thumbnail will appeal equally to everyone, YouTube can test three options and determine which one works best for different audience segments.

YouTube says this builds on its existing A/B testing tools. Since the feature officially launched in 2024, creators have conducted more than 40 million experiments involving titles and thumbnails.

And thumbnails won’t be the only thing creators can test.

YouTube will let creators A/B test video cuts

YouTube says a new video A/B testing feature is coming that will allow creators to test up to three different cuts of a video.

The purpose is to determine which opening hook performs best. That gives creators another variable to experiment with beyond the title and thumbnail: the actual version of the video that viewers see.

For creators who spend considerable time refining the first few seconds of a video, this could be a particularly useful addition. Instead of choosing one opening based entirely on instinct, they will eventually be able to put multiple versions through an audience test.

Ask Studio can work on older videos, too

Perhaps the most interesting part of the update is that YouTube’s AI tools aren’t limited to videos that are currently being created.

Ask Studio can run in the background and review older videos, looking for opportunities to refresh their thumbnails. It can then suggest and test updated thumbnails with the goal of helping older content reach new audiences.

That’s a notable shift in how YouTube Studio can be used. A creator’s back catalog doesn’t necessarily have to be treated as finished work. Videos that performed well in the past—or simply have untapped potential—could be given another chance through refreshed packaging.

For channels with hundreds or thousands of older videos, automatically identifying those opportunities could save a substantial amount of manual work.

YouTube’s broader direction here is clear: Studio is becoming less of a dashboard that tells creators what already happened and more of an assistant that can help them decide what to do next.

The company is bringing together research, video feedback, thumbnail generation, audience testing and eventually video-cut testing inside Studio. For creators, that means more of the repetitive optimization work can happen inside the same place where they already manage their channels.
