Sam Altman’s ambitious Worldcoin project, now rebranded as “World,” is making waves with its revamped Orb device. This orb isn’t your typical tech gadget—it’s an eyeball scanner aimed at verifying people’s humanness in an increasingly AI-driven world. The new Orb is built with 30% fewer parts and comes with NVIDIA’s Jetson AI platform, enabling faster and cheaper production, while bolstering privacy features like low-light cameras and better fraud detection.

The World project, which has already verified 7 million “unique humans,” promises more Orbs in more places, even allowing people to rent or buy their own to start scanning locally. This expansion aims to tackle concerns about digital identity in the age of deepfakes and AI-generated content. Despite growing privacy worries, including suspensions in countries like Kenya and Hong Kong, World presses forward, introducing new services like “Orb on Demand” to accelerate global adoption.

With its blend of decentralized biometric verification and cryptocurrency integration, World is positioning itself at the center of future discussions around privacy and identity in a tech-dominated world. However, critics remain cautious about the long-term implications of such a global biometric database.
Altman’s World is continuing its mission despite these challenges, launching in countries like Brazil, Australia, and Morocco, among others, while its cryptocurrency is still restricted in the U.S. due to regulatory concerns.
