German automaker Volkswagen is making a big impact in the industry by incorporating ChatGPT, a powerful artificial intelligence tool, into all its new electric ID. family models. This exciting development extends beyond electric cars, as Volkswagen is also integrating ChatGPT into the new Golf, Tiguan, and Passat, demonstrating their dedication to bringing advanced technology to a wider audience.
“Volkswagen has a long tradition of democratising technologies. As a volume manufacturer, we make these technologies accessible to large numbers of people. By seamlessly integrating ChatGPT into the backend of our voice assistant, we are now offering drivers the opportunity to use this artificial intelligence on a daily basis, thus underlining how innovative our products are,” said Kai Grünitz, member of Volkswagen’s Brand Board of Management responsible for Development.
The integration of ChatGPT will be achieved through Volkswagen’s existing IDA voice assistant. This move significantly expands the capabilities of IDA, offering ID. family drivers a more intuitive and interactive experience. Previously, IDA allowed drivers to control features like infotainment, navigation, and climate control using voice commands.
ChatGPT adds a whole new layer of functionality by enabling natural language interaction. This means you can ditch the robotic, pre-programmed phrases and talk to your car in a more natural way. Imagine asking your Volkswagen for more information about a historical landmark you’re passing by, or requesting the score of last night’s football game – all through voice commands that mimic everyday conversation.
Another key benefit of this integration is accessibility. Volkswagen understands that not everyone is a tech whiz, so they’ve ensured using ChatGPT in your new VW is a breeze. There’s no need to create separate accounts or download additional apps. As long as you have an existing VW Connect or Connect Plus account, you’re good to go. Additionally, ChatGPT will be available in at least five languages within VW vehicles, including English (US / UK), Spanish, Czech, and German, ensuring a wider range of users can experience its capabilities.
