Remember that time you really wanted to sound like a robot in Fortnite but your console wouldn’t let you use that cool voice changer app? Well, those days are over! Voicemod, the super-popular voice changer and soundboard app, is finally bringing the party to consoles like PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch with their new gadget, the Voicemod Key.
Console limitations have kept Voicemod out of the game (literally), but gamers figured out some wild workarounds (think headsets within headsets!). Voicemod saw this dedication and decided to get creative.
The Voicemod Key is basically a tiny USB-C thingy that turns your phone and wired headset into a voice-changing and soundboard beast. It’s like having a mini sound studio in your pocket (except way less bulky than lugging a microphone around).
Here’s how it works: you plug your wired headset into one jack on the Key, a cable into another, and then connect that cable to your console. Then, you pop the Key into your phone’s charging port and fire up the Voicemod app. Now you can sound like a robot, a chipmunk, or anything else your heart desires, and even blast funny sound effects during online chats.
The coolest part? They’re planning to make it work with mobile voice chat apps too! This is a win for anyone who wants to prank their friends or just add some fun to their online gaming.
There are a couple of things to keep in mind. The Key only works with wired headsets because of the way it wrangles the audio, so those fancy wireless ones won’t work for now. But hey, most gamers probably have a wired headset lying around anyway, right?
Ideally, Voicemod would just make console apps, but these platforms are a bit strict about how apps mess with sound. They hope the Key shows console makers how much gamers love messing with their voices, and maybe convince them to loosen up a bit.
Beta testers are getting their hands on it soon, and a full launch with a free Voicemod Pro subscription is expected later this year in the US.
