Verizon Expands Fios 2 Gig Plan to Cover All Five NYC Boroughs
SHARE

Verizon, the American telecommunications giant, has announced that its Fios 2 Gig plan, which it claims is the company’s fastest broadband service, is now available across all five boroughs of New York City. Although the announcement is great news for New Yorkers who are seeking a reliable and high-speed internet connection, the company has not specified the portion of the areas covered.

The Fios 2 Gig plan is powered by Verizon’s fiber-optic network, which offers better reliability and faster speeds than traditional cable internet. The plan starts at $94.99 per month, but this price is only available to existing Verizon Wireless customers on specific plans who sign up for autopay. Additionally, there is a $99 setup fee.

It is worth noting that the advertised pricing for the plan is only valid until April 12, 2023. New customers who have not subscribed to Verizon Home Internet in the previous 180 days are promised a four-year price guarantee. However, the cost of the service can vary based on the customer’s setup, and the monthly fee could be as high as $119.99.

Verizon claims that the Fios 2 Gig plan delivers symmetrical wired download and upload speeds, with a typical wired connection ranging between 1.5Gbps and 2.3Gbps. However, wireless speeds will be lower than wired speeds. The Fios 2 Gig plan includes a router rental with up to three WiFi extenders. However, customers who opt for self-setup only receive up to two extenders, and additional ones can be rented or purchased from Verizon.

While Verizon’s Fios 2 Gig plan promises blazing-fast speeds, it is important to read the fine print before signing up. The plan is not available to all Verizon customers, and the cost can be significantly higher than the advertised price. Despite these limitations, the availability of the service across all five boroughs of New York City is a significant milestone for Verizon and a positive development for internet users in the region.
