Hulu is one of the most popular premium streaming services available. It now expects to boost the number of its members by making major changes to the Hulu + Live TV subscription. Hulu said that starting April 13, all 4.3 million Hulu + Live TV subscribers will be able to have Unlimited DVR at no extra charge.
According to Hulu, the new Hulu + Live TV functionality will be available to all Hulu + Live TV subscribers. It includes individuals with a basic membership as well as those who purchase the monthly $9.99 Enhanced Cloud DVR add-on or the monthly $14.98 Enhanced Cloud DVR + Unlimited Screen combo. When this is completed, two add-on subscribers will see a discount on their monthly bills.
For current Hulu members and those considering the Hulu + Live TV subscription, this could be an attractive offer. It also puts the subscription on par with pay TV and YouTube TV bundles.
Hulu + Live TV features next-day network TV shows, award-winning Originals, and a vast library of on-demand hit TV episodes and movies, in addition to access to 80+ live channels, Disney+, and ESPN+. It’s the only pay TV streaming service that includes both standalone SVOD and live TV in a single monthly membership fee.
Hulu + Live TV, which has 4.3 million users, is one of the largest DMVPDs in the United States, allowing viewers to watch on their preferred device without making long-term commitments.
A Hulu + Live TV base user has only 50 hours of DVR storage thus far. It can be updated to 200 hours of recording time, as well as the ability to rewind and fast-forward recordings as desired. It does, however, come with additional charges. All of these subscribers, on the other hand, will benefit from Hulu’s new free upgrade, which includes unlimited recordings for up to 9 months as well as fast-forward and rewind functions.
“Hulu + Live TV is becoming even more valuable and attractive to consumers,” said Hulu President Joey Earley. “Through one single subscription, users get access to 80+ live channels – including all the major broadcast networks – as well as Hulu, Disney+, ESPN+, and soon Unlimited DVR. Guided by our relentless focus on delivering the consumer a high-quality user experience, we will be one of the only pay TV providers – traditional or streaming – to offer this feature as part of the base plan at no additional cost.”
