Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has rolled out a new feature allowing users to sort replies on the iPhone app. This update offers a much-needed reprieve from the platform’s previous system where paid subscribers often dominated reply sections.
Previously, X’s subscription tiers, X Premium and X Premium+, granted users a prominent position in reply threads, leading to criticism of a “pay-to-play” environment. With the introduction of sorting options—most relevant, most recent, and most liked—users now have greater control over the content they see.
While the “most relevant” option is likely still influenced by X’s algorithms, the ability to prioritize recent or liked replies offers a more traditional approach to engaging with conversations on the platform. However, users will need to reselect their preferred sorting method for each new tweet, as the setting is not currently saved.
