(Remember, it launched on July 5th, 2023?) To celebrate hitting the big one-oh, Meta hid a sweet treat inside the app – a chance to snag some awesome new custom app icons.

Here’s the cool part: iPhone and Android users can both join the party. Just open your Threads app and head to your profile (that’s the little person icon in the corner). See that new birthday cake icon with a single candle? It’s chilling between the Instagram icon and the menu thingy (you know, those two lines). Tap that cake, and bam!

Threads throws you a virtual birthday bash with a message saying “Threads is turning one!” But wait, there’s more! The app lets you unlock special app icons designed by other Threads users.

Here’s how to unlock them: pretend it’s a scratch-off lottery ticket. Tap that shiny silver icon next to your regular Threads icon, and surprise! On July 3rd, 2024, you’ll reveal a one-of-a-kind Threads logo created by user @maxymachen. You can then set that as your snazzy new icon. There are four more blank icons waiting to be revealed, so keep checking back!

But hurry! This custom icon fun disappears on July 12th, 2024. So, if you want to rock a fresh Threads icon, open the app (make sure it’s updated!), and get scratching! You can even share your scratch-off experience or “rethread” (basically share) someone else’s design to spread the birthday vibes.
