The world got its first glimpse into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s take on the iconic Fantastic Four this weekend, and it was a cosmically charged affair. During a highly anticipated panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the film’s stars – Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach – joined director Matt Shakman to unveil the project’s official title: The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The name is a clear indication of where the story is headed. Set in the vibrant and dynamic era of the 1960s, the film will blend the familiar world of the era with a futuristic edge, according to Shakman. The director emphasized a desire to stay true to the beloved comic book characters while grounding them in authentic human experiences.

A brief teaser shown during the panel offered a tantalizing preview of what fans can expect. Pascal’s Reed Richards is introduced as a science teacher, suggesting a relatable origin story before the inevitable cosmic adventure. The clip culminates with the team embarking on a rocket launch, setting the stage for their transformative encounter. A chilling glimpse of Galactus, the cosmic entity to be played by Ralph Ineson, served as a final, ominous note.
