Lucasfilm today unveiled the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series “Ahsoka” during the Star Wars Celebration event in London. The trailer offers a glimpse into the latest adventure of Ahsoka Tano, the exiled Jedi who was once Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice before he succumbed to the dark side and became Darth Vader. The show, which stars Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka, is set to premiere in August 2023.
Kathleen Kennedy and Jon Favreau, the show’s producers, praised showrunner Dave Filoni during the event, while Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who plays Mandalorian warrior Sabin Wren, joined Filoni on stage. The event also featured a surprise appearance by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who revealed she would be playing Hera Syndulla, a character from the animated series “Star Wars Rebels.”
Dawson expressed her excitement at finally being able to show the trailer to fans, saying, “We’ve got some great surprises for all of you, but today is really special because I’m excited to see some footage — finally! I’m like, ‘If it’s not today, when!’” Dawson also spoke about the show’s innovative production techniques, particularly the use of an LED immersive soundstage called The Volume. “We are completely immersed almost all the time. The level of detail is remarkable,” she said. “Even the last day, the lightsabers turn on and we’re in the world. It’s only been three weeks since my heart stopped racing. I wake up every morning thinking I need to be doing something.”
In addition to Dawson, the show will feature Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, the main character of “Rebels” and a Jedi Padawan. Other co-stars include Ray Stevenson (“Vikings”) and Ivanna Sakhno (“Pacific Rim: Uprising”).
Ahsoka first appeared in the 2008 animated film “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and later became a fan favorite on the television series of the same name. She returned in the animated series “Star Wars Rebels,” voiced by Ashley Eckstein. In 2020, Dawson made her live-action debut as the character in “The Mandalorian.”
With the highly anticipated release of “Ahsoka” just a few months away, fans of the Star Wars franchise are eager to see what adventures lie ahead for one of the most beloved characters in the series.
