Grab your lightsabers and ready the Millennium Falcon – an epic Star Wars marathon is blasting into theaters for May the 4th festivities. In a move sure to delight fans across the galaxy, Lucasfilm has announced that all nine films of the iconic Skywalker Saga will unspool on the big screen over the celebratory weekend.
The binge-worthy odyssey begins, fittingly, with 1999’s The Phantom Menace, which first introduced audiences to the tragic tale of Anakin Skywalker and his inexorable journey toward the Dark Side. George Lucas’ critically divisive prequel will kick things off before rolling right into Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith (2005), the two films that chronicle Anakin’s fall and transformation into Darth Vader.
From there, audiences will be transported back to that galaxy far, far away from the original trilogy, reliving the heroic battles of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and the Rebel Alliance against the totalitarian Empire. A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983) will unspool on select screens, reminding fans why they fell in love with Star Wars in the first place.
But the grand expedition doesn’t end there. The Skywalker journey will reach its culmination with the hotly debated sequel trilogy of The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Love them or loathe them, these recent entries ushered the saga into a new era and passed the intergalactic baton to a new generation of heroes.
Fans with a voracious appetite for all things Star Wars will be treated to an added bonus – an exclusive first look at The Acolyte, the mysterious new Disney+ series from creator Leslye Headland. Little is known about the tightly-guarded project beyond its setting in the waning days of the High Republic era, but attendees will get to sample never-before-seen footage ahead of its 2024 premiere. A commemorative poster will also be handed out to those in attendance.
Tickets for this singular marathon experience go on sale Friday, March 22 at 9 am PT/12 pm ET. For the ultimate test of fandom endurance, Star Wars diehards can partake in the whole 22+ hour journey. Or they can selectively plan their attack on the various trilogies. However you make the run, the theater is gearing up to be the main hub for May the 4th celebrations.
The circle is now complete. May the Force be with you, always.
