Trekkies, it’s time to set your warp drives to full throttle because Star Trek: Section 31 is gearing up for its big debut! Paramount Plus has dropped the first official trailer for the much-anticipated TV movie, and it’s every bit as action-packed and dramatic as you’d expect from the Star Trek universe.

Led by Michelle Yeoh, reprising her Emmy-winning role as the morally complex Emperor Philippa Georgiou, the story dives into a covert wing of Starfleet that deals with the galaxy’s shadowy corners. Known for her villain-to-antihero arc in Star Trek: Discovery, Georgiou now heads a team of unconventional recruits to confront a threat that could shatter the United Federation of Planets.

The trailer hints at intense action and moral dilemmas, with sleek spaceship designs, moody starbase corridors, and a mysterious, electrified cosmic anomaly that screams “Star Trek at its finest.” You’ll catch glimpses of her ragtag team, including Alok Sahar (Omari Hardwick), Rachel Garrett (Kacey Rohl), and unique crew members like a Chameloid shapeshifter (Sam Richardson) and an empath (Humberly Gonzalez).

The project is helmed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, with a script by Craig Sweeny. It’s executive-produced by Alex Kurtzman, a pivotal figure behind the modern Star Trek renaissance, and is set to stream exclusively on Paramount Plus on January 24, 2025.

Fans of Star Trek will notice subtle nods to lore, from the inclusion of Captain Rachel Garrett (linked to the iconic Enterprise-C) to the themes of redemption that have long defined the series. Meanwhile, newcomers will be drawn to the cinematic scope and layered characters that make this an ideal entry point into the franchise.

Whether you’re here for Michelle Yeoh’s commanding presence or the franchise’s rich storytelling, Section 31 promises a mix of intrigue, action, and heart. Mark your calendars, because January’s going to be stellar!
