Hey, Spidey fans, buckle up because we’ve got some web-tastic news straight out of CinemaCon! Tom Holland’s next swing as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man finally has a name: Spider-Man: Brand New Day. And guess what? Cameras are set to roll this summer, according to director Destin Daniel Cretton, who dropped the bombshell at the annual Las Vegas gathering for movie theater owners.

A fresh start after that No Way Home cliffhanger

Picture this: Tom Holland, halfway across the globe filming Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey with heavy hitters like Matt Damon, Zendaya, and Anne Hathaway, couldn’t make it to CinemaCon in person. But the guy still found a way to steal the show with a video message that had everyone leaning in. “I am so sorry I can’t be with you,” he said, flashing that trademark charm. “I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, so Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That’s all I can say.”

And props to Holland for keeping his lips sealed—because, let’s be real, this is the dude who’s accidentally spoiled MCU secrets more times than we can count. “That’s all I’ve been allowed to say,” he added with a laugh. “And I’m well over the hump of giving away spoilers, so don’t be worried. I’m not going to do that today.” Phew, crisis averted.

For anyone who needs a refresher (or just wants to relive the heartbreak), Spider-Man: No Way Home left us all gutted in 2021. Peter Parker, after unleashing a multiverse mess with Doctor Strange, made the ultimate sacrifice: wiping his identity from everyone’s memory—including MJ and Ned—to fix the chaos. It was a tearjerker of an ending that left Peter alone, swinging off into a new chapter. Now, Brand New Day promises to pick up that thread and give him—and us—a clean slate. But what does that look like? Well, Marvel’s keeping the plot tighter than Spider-Man’s suit for now, but the title alone is a massive clue.

The comic connection: what’s in a name?

If you’re a comic nerd (no judgment, same), Brand New Day might ring some bells. In the Spider-Man comics, it’s a big-deal storyline that kicked off in 2008 after the controversial One More Day. In that arc, Peter strikes a deal with the devilish Mephisto to save Aunt May’s life, but it costs him his marriage to Mary Jane and resets his world. Brand New Day follows that reset, giving Peter a fresh start with new adventures, new foes, and a lighter vibe after years of heavy drama.

Does this mean the MCU’s version will go full Mephisto? Probably not—Marvel loves to remix comic lore rather than copy-paste it. But the title suggests Peter’s stepping into uncharted territory, free from the weight of his past. Maybe he’s rebuilding his life in New York, figuring out who he is when no one knows him. Or maybe we’re in for some wild new twists. Either way, fans are already losing it online, speculating about everything from new villains to multiverse leftovers.

The gang’s (mostly) back—plus a new face

Of course, Tom Holland’s back as Peter Parker—did anyone doubt it? The guy’s been slinging webs since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War and shows no signs of hanging up the mask. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, aka MJ and Ned, are also expected to return, though Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed it yet. After No Way Home erased their memories of Peter, it’ll be fascinating to see how—or if—they reconnect. Will MJ and Peter get a second shot at love? Will Ned remember his best bro? The possibilities are endless, and honestly, a little nerve-wracking.

But here’s where it gets juicy: Sadie Sink, the Stranger Things breakout who stole hearts as Max, has joined the cast. Her role’s still a mystery, but the rumor mill’s churning. Some fans reckon she could be Jean Grey, the telepathic X-Men mutant previously played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner in Fox’s films. With the X-Men slowly creeping into the MCU (hello, Deadpool & Wolverine), it’s not a crazy leap. Others think she might be Gwen Stacy or even Black Cat. For now, it’s all speculation—Marvel’s staying mum, and we’re left guessing.

Behind the camera, Destin Daniel Cretton’s calling the shots. Fresh off the success of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Cretton’s bringing his knack for heartfelt action to Spidey’s world. At CinemaCon, he couldn’t stop gushing about the gig: “I’m spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world. We’re all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride that we haven’t really seen before.” Sounds like they’re cooking up something special—and maybe a little different from the Spidey flicks we’re used to.

Cretton also gave a shoutout to his crew, teasing their dedication without spilling any names. “I really wish I could introduce you to our entire team who are working their butts off for this,” he said. “They are incredible, and you will see their amazing work when Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits your theaters.” With filming kicking off this summer and a release date locked for July 31, 2026, they’ve got plenty of time to polish this web gem.

Box office gold: why theater owners are pumped

Let’s talk numbers, because Spider-Man’s not just a fan favorite—he’s a cash machine. Holland’s trilogy has been a lifeline for theaters, especially post-pandemic. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) raked in $880 million worldwide, Far From Home (2019) upped the ante with $1.13 billion, and No Way Home? A jaw-dropping $1.9 billion, making it the sixth-highest-grossing film ever and the first pandemic-era flick to smash the billion-dollar mark. No wonder theater owners were grinning ear to ear at CinemaCon.

Holland knows who’s buttering his bread, too. “I would never pass up the opportunity,” he told the room of exhibitors, “to say a massive ‘thank you’ for all of your support for all of our Spider-Man movies.” It’s a symbiotic relationship—Spidey keeps theaters packed, and theaters keep Spidey swinging. With Brand New Day on the horizon, that partnership’s looking stronger than ever.

So, what’s next? Filming starts this summer, which means we might get set photos or leaks by fall—assuming Holland doesn’t blurt something out first. Until then, we’re left dreaming about Peter Parker’s new day. Will he face a classic foe like Venom or Kraven? Will the multiverse rear its head again? Or will this be a grounded, New York-centric tale of a hero finding his footing? Whatever it is, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already shaping up to be a must-see. Catch you at the theater in 2026—web-shooters optional.
