The long-awaited smaller version of the PlayStation 5, dubbed the “PS5 Slim,” has officially hit the US market, offering gamers a more compact option without compromising performance. Priced at $499.99, the PS5 Slim with a disc drive is now available for purchase, while the discless PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, priced at $449.99, is set to follow.

In a statement this week, Sony assured consumers of increased console availability, including the new PS5 Slim, just in time for the holiday season. Excitingly, PS5 bundles featuring popular titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, EA Sports FC 24, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III are also on offer.

Interested buyers can snag the PS5 Slim from various retailers, including direct.playstation.com and Amazon. As an added bonus, an early Black Friday deal sweetens the pot, providing a free copy of the recently released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III with the purchase of the new PS5 Slim.

While the original PlayStation 5 will continue to be sold until supplies last, the Slim model will eventually become the sole option. Opting for the $449.99 PS5 Digital Edition doesn’t mean sacrificing flexibility either; you can still purchase the attachable disc drive separately for $79.99.

Notably, the PS5 Slim boasts a 30% reduction in size and up to 24% lighter weight compared to its predecessor, making it a more manageable fit for your entertainment setup. However, potential buyers should note that the vertical stand, included with the original, is now a separate purchase at $29.99.

Despite its smaller size, the PS5 Slim maintains the same powerful specifications under the hood. As of Sony’s recent announcement, PlayStation 5 sales have soared to 46.5 million units since its launch, with a noteworthy 4.9 million units sold in the previous quarter. The question now is whether this sleeker model will further drive sales during the bustling holiday season. Meanwhile, rumors circulate that Microsoft might unveil a disc-less version of its Xbox Series X next year, adding an interesting twist to the console competition.
