In the latest macOS Sonoma 14.2 beta 2 release, music enthusiasts have reason to celebrate as Shazam, the popular music recognition app, finds a new home right on your Mac‘s menu bar and Control Center.
Apple, which acquired Shazam in December 2017, has been gradually weaving its functionality into various platforms. Earlier, in iOS 14.2, Shazam made its mark with a dedicated Control Center widget on iPhones. Now, this feature has seamlessly made its way to the Mac.
Here’s how you can bring Shazam to your Mac’s menu bar and Control Center:
- Open the System Settings app.
- Navigate to “Control Center” in the sidebar.
- Look for the shiny new “Music Recognition” section.
- Toggle on the switches for Shazam in both the menu bar and Control Center.

It’s worth noting the serendipity that both iOS and macOS are reaching version “14.2” with Shazam integration, three years apart. And who would’ve thought—the Mac is younger than the iPhone!

Before this update, Shazam on Mac required a dedicated app or a chat with Siri. Now, it’s seamlessly integrated into macOS Sonoma, extending beyond the realm of Siri.
With the Shazam menu bar icon, users can conveniently peruse a history of identified songs. Clicking on the album art seamlessly redirects you to the Music app, while any other click takes you directly to the Shazam website.

As we await the public release of macOS 14.2 later this year, music discovery on your Mac is about to get a whole lot easier. Shazam away!
