As Samsung gears up to unveil the Galaxy S25 series at its January 22 Unpacked event, leaks are shedding light on what fans can expect. While some improvements are in store, the base model’s storage is reportedly staying unchanged at 128GB, similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy S24.

The Galaxy S25 will likely offer 128GB and 256GB storage configurations, continuing the trend set by the S24. Meanwhile, the S25+ and S25 Ultra are expected to start at 256GB, with the Ultra extending to 1TB for its top-tier variant. Unfortunately, this means Samsung isn’t following competitors like Apple, which has begun offering 256GB as the standard for some models. This decision could disappoint users hoping for more onboard storage, especially as apps and media demands grow.

Despite keeping storage the same, Samsung may bump up the RAM on the base Galaxy S25 to 12GB, a notable improvement over the 8GB in the S24. This aligns with Samsung’s increasing focus on AI capabilities and multitasking, areas where additional RAM could shine. The Galaxy S25 Ultra might also feature 16GB RAM on its premium variants.

Rumors suggest a variety of chipsets depending on the region, including Snapdragon 8 Elite and Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2500, though these details remain unconfirmed. Other upgrades may include improved AI features and enhanced camera systems.

Samsung’s decision to retain 128GB as the entry-level option may reflect broader industry trends. Cloud storage adoption and AI advancements have shifted some of the emphasis away from onboard storage. However, for those who rely heavily on local storage for large files or offline media, this could be a sticking point.

With a confirmed launch date and leaks hinting at a mix of incremental and meaningful upgrades, the Galaxy S25 series seems poised to cater to a wide range of users. Whether sticking with 128GB is a missed opportunity or a pragmatic choice remains to be seen when the devices hit shelves.
