At the Samsung Unpacked 2022 event, Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy S22 series. The Galaxy S22 is the first smartphone in the S series to feature an Armor Aluminum frame, as well as the first to use plastics recycled from discarded fishing nets.

The Galaxy S22 is also the first Ultra model to include an embedded S Pen, marking the end of the famous accessory’s move from the Galaxy Note to the Galaxy S series. This year’s Galaxy S22 sports a Gorilla Glass Victus+ rear panel instead of a plastic one.

In some markets, the Exynos 2200 SoC is used in the Galaxy S22 flagships, but in others, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is used. The Galaxy S22 and S22+ have 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage, respectively, while the Galaxy S22 Ultra has 8+128GB, 12+256GB, 12+512GB, and 12+1TB of storage.

In the Game Mode, all three models offer a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The Vision Booster feature on the Dynamic AMOLED 2X screens improves brightness and color reproduction in outdoor conditions.

The Galaxy S22 and S22+ have 6.1 and 6.6-inch displays, respectively, whereas the Galaxy S22 Ultra is equipped with a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a refresh rate of 1-120Hz.

The base and Plus models come with a triple camera system that includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 10MP telephoto sensor. The selfie camera has a 10MP resolution.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s unofficial Galaxy Note sequel, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, has a better camera system with a 108MP primary sensor with dual-pixel AF, a 12MP ultra-wide shooter, a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and another 10MP telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra can achieve 100x hybrid zoom when used with 10x digital zoom and AI Super Resolution technology.

The Galaxy S22 has a 3700mAh battery with 25W charging, whereas the Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra have 4500mAh and 5000mAh capacities, respectively, and offer 45W charging.

The latency of the S Pen has been improved thanks to a new Wacom IC and better AI prediction. Handwriting recognition was improved, and the number of languages supported for handwriting-to-text was raised by 12, bringing the total to 99.

Android 12 and One UI 4.1 are pre-installed on all three devices. Thanks to Samsung’s new firmware policy revealed at Unpacked 2022, they’ll be eligible for four major Android OS upgrades and at least five years of security fixes.

Galaxy S22 Series Pricing & Availability

The Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra are all available for pre-order at $799, $999, and $1,199, respectively. The Galaxy S22 Ultra will ship later this month, while the other two models will arrive around mid-March.
