Samsung finally showed off its new Galaxy Buds at their recent event, alongside all sorts of cool stuff like foldable phones (Galaxy Z Fold6 & Z Flip6) and fancy watches (Galaxy Watch7 & Ultra), as well as the smart ring called Galaxy Ring. The big news for the Buds is a new design that ditches the old rounded look for something straighter, more like Apple‘s AirPods. They’re calling it a “blade” design, and it comes with some swanky new features like a built-in translator and automatic noise adjustment.

Before, Samsung’s Buds were all smooth and round, like most earbuds. But lately, those stick-out styles have gotten popular, and Samsung is joining the party. They say their new design is based on a bunch of user data, and it’s supposed to be easier to control with pinches and swipes – just like the AirPods Pro. There’s a catch though: the regular Galaxy Buds3 don’t fit in your ear as snugly as the AirPods, while the pricier Galaxy Buds3 Pro do.

Both types of Buds have something called active noise cancellation (ANC) that blocks out background noise. But only the Pro version lets you hear some outside noise when you want to, like if someone’s talking to you.

Speaking of sound, the Pro version has a special speaker setup with two different parts for strong bass and clear highs. Both kinds of Buds can play super high-quality audio and offer a 360-degree sound experience if you’ve got a compatible Samsung phone. Battery life isn’t bad either, with the Buds3 lasting around 5 hours with noise cancelling on (or up to 24 hours with the charging case). The Pro version stretches that to 6 hours (and 26 hours with the case).

Samsung is also throwing some artificial intelligence (AI) into the mix with a new feature called Interpreter. This works with Samsung phones and can translate languages on the fly, kind of like what Google’s Pixel Buds already do. The neat part is that the translation happens on your phone, not the earbuds themselves.

Here’s another cool trick: the Buds can constantly listen to what’s going on around you and adjust the sound automatically. They can even tell the difference between sirens and your own voice! If they hear you talking, they’ll automatically lower the music volume and let you hear what’s going on around you. This feature is called Voice Detect, and it was on the older Galaxy Buds2 Pro too – glad to see it sticking around.

Finally, Samsung added voice controls for music and other stuff, and a new calling feature that transmits your voice at a higher quality. They’re also using some fancy tech to reduce background noise during calls.

The Galaxy Buds3 and Galaxy Buds3 Pro are up for preorder now, with the regular Buds costing $179.99 and the Pros setting you back $249.99. They both come in silver and white, and if you preorder from Samsung before July 23rd, they’ll throw in a free case to keep your new buds safe.
