Samsung today announced it is expanding support for several advanced audio technologies across its lineup of phones, tablets, and TVs. The new features will roll out progressively starting at the end of February.
One of the highlighted technologies is Auracast, which allows audio streaming from one device to multiple endpoints like speakers and headphones. Auracast was previously available on the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro earbuds and select TVs. Now Samsung says support is coming to more devices.
The Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Tab S9 tablets will be able to broadcast Auracast streams if running One UI 6.1. Meanwhile, devices including the Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, A54 5G, and Tab S9 FE with One UI 5.1.1 will be able to receive Auracast broadcasts. Auracast is an industry standard, so streams will also work with speakers and headphones from other brands.
For real-time translation, Samsung announced pairing the Galaxy Buds with an S24 phone will play translations directly through the earbuds. The person you are speaking with will hear the translated speech through the phone’s speaker. This allows private listening of translations.
360 Audio, a surround sound technology using head tracking, is expanding to more of Samsung’s 2024 Neo QLED and OLED TVs. It currently works on select Samsung phones and tablets with the Buds 2 Pro and Buds 2 earbuds.
Finally, Auto Switch will now work between Galaxy Book laptops and phones. Auto Switch automatically swaps your Bluetooth audio connection between devices when receiving a call.
These new features showcase Samsung’s focus on providing an ecosystem of devices with tightly integrated audio capabilities. The company is aiming to make features like seamless device switching and private listening more ubiquitous through expanded support.
