Samsung is breathing new life into some of its older flagship smartphones and tablets. The company has announced plans to extend its cutting-edge Galaxy AI capabilities to several devices from previous generations, ensuring that even owners of aging hardware can experience the latest advancements in artificial intelligence.

The news, initially revealed in a post by a Samsung representative on the company’s community forum in Korea, has since been corroborated by multiple tech publications, including 9to5Google and Android Central. According to the reports, Samsung’s forthcoming One UI 6.1 update, scheduled for release next month, will bring a range of Galaxy AI features to several older flagship models.

At the forefront of this rollout are Samsung’s flagship devices from 2022, including the Galaxy S22, S22 Plus, S22 Ultra, Z Fold4, Z Flip4, Tab S8, and Tab S8 Ultra. These devices will receive a slightly trimmed-down version of Galaxy AI, sans the Instant Slow-Mo feature, which automatically plays a video in slow motion upon a simple tap. However, the version they’ll receive is identical to the one currently available on Samsung’s recently launched, more affordable Galaxy S23 FE.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Samsung has also decided to extend a taste of Galaxy AI to its 2021 flagship lineup, catering to those who have held onto their older devices. The Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, S21 Ultra, Z Flip3, and Z Fold3 will all receive two notable Galaxy AI features: Circle to Search and Magic Rewrite.

Circle to Search is a nifty tool that allows users to quickly search for information by simply drawing a circle around an object or text in an image. This feature leverages the power of artificial intelligence to recognize and identify the circled element, making it easier to find relevant information on the web or within the device’s apps.

Magic Rewrite, on the other hand, is a text-editing marvel that harnesses the capabilities of AI to rephrase, rewrite, or restructure text with a single tap. This feature can be particularly useful for those who frequently work with written content, enabling them to explore alternative phrasing and enhance the clarity and flow of their writing.

Samsung’s decision to bring these cutting-edge AI features to older devices is a testament to the company’s commitment to providing long-lasting value to its customers. By extending the lifespan of flagship hardware and keeping older models up-to-date with the latest software advancements, Samsung is not only promoting sustainability but also fostering customer loyalty.
