Reliance Jio is rumored to be working on a low-cost laptop called JioBook that will cost less than $184. (approx. Rs.15,000). The device might also include an embedded 4G SIM card.
Mukesh Ambani‘s company has collaborated with Microsoft and Qualcomm to bring the laptop to market.
According to Reuters, the JioBook laptop will use Qualcomm chips based on Arm Ltd technology, for software support, it will rely on the JioOS operating system and Microsoft-supported apps.
According to the source, the device will be available to customers such as schools and government institutes starting this month, with the enterprise customers launching within the next three months.
According to sources, the company plans to sell “hundreds of thousands” of units of this low-cost laptop by March of next year.
According to Counterpoint analyst Tarun Pathak, the JioBook will boost the total addressable laptop market by 15%. The company has pitched the upcoming laptop as an alternative to tablets for corporate employees who are out of the office.
“Challenges for the adoption will be user awareness…Also non-Windows (operating system) is a letdown too,” Counterpoint analyst Tarun Pathak said.
