Are you drowning in a sea of digital memories? Fear not! Swiss privacy giant Proton has come to the rescue with the launch of photo backup for iOS.
This isn’t just another run-of-the-mill cloud storage solution. Proton takes security seriously, promising ironclad end-to-end encryption for your photos and videos. This means no prying eyes, not even Proton themselves, can access your precious memories.
Photo backup seamlessly integrates with your iPhone, automatically uploading and syncing your entire photo and video library. Need access on the go? No problem! You can view your photos from anywhere with an internet connection, be it on your phone, tablet, or computer.
And for those times when you find yourself disconnected, fear not! Proton’s “Available Offline” mode lets you save specific photos and videos for access even without an internet connection. All while maintaining their top-notch encryption, of course!
When it comes to storage options, Proton offers a free tier with 5GB of space, which is great for casual users. Need more space? They’ve got you covered with paid plans starting at $3.99 per month for 200GB. If you’re a data hoarder, the Proton Unlimited plan offers a whopping 500GB of storage for $9.99 per month. This plan also throws in access to other Proton services like their encrypted email (Proton Mail) and secure VPN.
Proton’s roots trace back to 2014, starting as Proton Mail, a service funded by a wildly successful crowdfunding campaign. Since then, they’ve expanded their encrypted offerings to include a VPN, Drive, Pass, and even a Calendar. Recently, they rebranded as simply Proton, solidifying their position as a one-stop shop for privacy-conscious users.
Recently, Proton announced its transition to a non-profit model this week. According to the company, this shift offers additional security benefits that a traditional for-profit structure can’t match. They specifically highlight the absence of venture capitalists and shareholder influence, a potential conflict of interest when it comes to user data. This move positions Proton as a strong alternative to the big tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and Apple, which are notorious for their data collection practices.
