If you’ve spent any time at all juggling professional and personal digital lives, you know the quiet frustration of the constant sign-in, sign-out dance. It’s a small, recurring tax on our time—one that’s particularly annoying when you’re trying to move fast in an AI-powered workflow. Thankfully, Perplexity just made life a bit smoother for Mac users, rolling out a native account switcher for their desktop app.

For anyone who relies on Perplexity as a primary research or productivity engine, this is one of those “finally” updates that feels overdue but incredibly welcome. The team announced that the update is live now, letting users jump between saved accounts, add new ones, or manage their profiles directly through the sidebar or settings menu. It’s a clean, Gmail-style approach to account management that feels right at home in a desktop environment.

It might seem like a modest change, but for power users, it’s a meaningful shift in how they interact with AI. Whether you are splitting your time between a personal account for side projects and a separate professional one for work research, or perhaps just managing different workflows that require distinct history and preferences, the new switcher removes that friction of having to re-authenticate every time you shift gears.

The update underscores a broader trend we’re seeing across the industry: AI tools are maturing from simple chat boxes into full-fledged desktop workspaces. With Perplexity’s continued push into features like their “Personal Computer” capabilities—which allow the AI to interact directly with local files, apps, and system workflows—the app is becoming a permanent fixture on the desktop rather than just a tab you visit in your browser. As these agents become more embedded in our daily operations, the ability to manage multiple identities without breaking the flow is no longer a luxury; it’s a prerequisite.

For now, the feature is rolling out to all Mac users, and it’s a clear signal that the company is listening to the user base. Sometimes, the most impactful improvements aren’t the flashy new model releases or the complex autonomous agent breakthroughs, but rather the small, practical quality-of-life updates that make us realize, “Oh good, I don’t have to deal with that anymore.” Now, if only every other platform would take note and follow suit.

The Perplexity Mac app now has an account switcher.
