OpenAI has introduced GPT-4o, an enhanced iteration of its powerful GPT-4 model that drives the popular ChatGPT platform. This latest update boasts remarkable speed improvements and enhanced capabilities spanning text, vision, and audio, as announced by OpenAI’s CTO, Mira Murati, during a livestream event on Monday.

In a blog post, OpenAI detailed that GPT-4o’s enhanced functionalities will be progressively rolled out. Notably, users can already experience improved text and image capabilities within ChatGPT starting today.

CEO Sam Altman emphasized that GPT-4o is inherently multimodal, meaning the model can generate or comprehend content through voice, text, or images seamlessly. Developers keen on exploring GPT-4o will gain access to an API that’s not only faster but also offered at a reduced cost compared to its predecessor, GPT-4 Turbo.

Exciting enhancements are in store for ChatGPT’s voice mode, where the app is evolving into a Her-like voice assistant, capable of real-time responses and contextual awareness of its environment. Previously, the voice mode was more constrained, handling one prompt at a time based solely on auditory inputs.
