Exciting news for free ChatGPT users! As of early May, a wave of new features powered by GPT-4o has become available to everyone. This means you can now leverage custom GPTs, analyze charts, ask questions about photos, and enjoy other functionalities previously reserved for paying subscribers.
Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect:
- Custom GPTs — Paid users have always been able to create custom versions of ChatGPT tailored to specific tasks. Now, you can explore these pre-built creations without needing a paid subscription. Imagine a custom GPT that helps you learn the rules of any board game, assists your child with math problems, or even designs one-of-a-kind stickers! While creating your own custom GPT remains a privilege for Plus subscribers ($20/month currently), the ability to discover and utilize existing ones opens doors to a whole new level of interaction.
- Data analysis and chart creation — Connect your personal cloud storage from OneDrive or Google Drive to ChatGPT. This allows you to analyze your data faster and create customizable charts to visualize your findings.
- Vision and file upload — Ask questions about photos you upload or encounter online. This feature leverages GPT-4o’s capabilities to provide insights based on visual information.
- Memory and model/web responses — GPT-4o remembers previous interactions within a session, making your conversations more cohesive. Additionally, it can now access and process information directly from the web, providing more comprehensive responses to your queries.
While these upgrades are a welcome addition, there’s a catch. Free users have message limits. Once you reach that limit while using GPT-4o functionalities, you’ll automatically revert back to the earlier GPT-3.5 version. Additionally, paid subscribers (ChatGPT Plus, Teams, and Enterprise) still enjoy the benefit of higher message limits.
