OpenAI‘s latest update promises to streamline the process of using ChatGPT for data analysis, eliminating the need to manually download files from cloud storage services. According to a blog post, users will soon be able to upload files directly from Google Drive and OneDrive to the chatbot, making data analysis faster and more convenient.
This new feature will be available to ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, and Teams users over the coming weeks. Once they gain access, users will simply need to grant the chatbot permission to access their Google Drive or OneDrive accounts. OpenAI notes that this integration will enable ChatGPT to handle various file types, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and their Google counterparts, more efficiently.
The enhanced functionality is part of GPT-4o, an improved version of the GPT-4 model, which powers the paid versions of ChatGPT. With these updates, ChatGPT is better equipped to process and analyze datasets based on natural language instructions. Users can now ask the chatbot to execute Python code for data analytics, merge or clean datasets, and create charts directly from the information in their files.
Previously, ChatGPT could generate charts upon request, but the new capabilities go further. Users can now interact with the tables and charts the chatbot creates, expanding views, and customizing visualizations by changing colors or posing additional queries about specific data points. The interactive visualizations currently support bar, line, pie, and scatter plot charts, while other chart types are generated in static form.
OpenAI emphasizes that data privacy remains a priority. Data uploaded by ChatGPT Enterprise and Teams users will not be used to train AI models, and ChatGPT Plus subscribers have the option to opt out of data training. This commitment aims to reassure users that their information will be handled responsibly and securely.
