OnePlus announced this week that its upcoming smartwatch, the OnePlus Watch 2, will boast an exceptionally long battery life of up to 100 hours. This claim comes after the original OnePlus Watch received criticism for its disappointing two-day battery.
In an official statement on February 20th, OnePlus revealed a few key details about the Watch 2, which is set to be fully unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 26th. The company said the watch will be available in two colors – black (Black Steel) and silver (Radiant Steel) – and will feature a stainless steel body and sapphire crystal display.
Perhaps most notably, OnePlus stated that with a power-saving “Smart Mode” enabled, the Watch 2 can last up to 100 hours on a single charge. This is a huge jump up from the original OnePlus Watch, which only lasted around 40 hours. It would also beat out the Apple Watch Ultra 2‘s 72 hours in low-power mode.
In addition to stellar battery life, OnePlus said the Watch 2 will offer “meticulous health monitoring” features. While full details were not provided, this likely means advanced sensors for tracking metrics like heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep, stress, and more. The original OnePlus Watch was fairly limited in health tracking capabilities.
With its clean, minimalist design and OxygenOS software, the OnePlus Watch 2 could become a tempting option in the Android smartwatch space. But the proof will be in real-world battery tests and just how extensive those touted health features turn out to be.
Tech enthusiasts will not have to wait long to find out. OnePlus is expected to reveal all on the Watch 2 at its Mobile World Congress presentation on February 26th. If it can deliver on that 100-hour claim, it could position the Watch 2 as one of the longest-lasting smartwatches yet.
