Elon Musk, the renowned billionaire entrepreneur and owner of Twitter, is reportedly planning to launch an artificial intelligence (AI) start-up that would compete with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. According to the Financial Times, Musk is recruiting a team of AI researchers and engineers for his new venture and is in talks with investors from Tesla and SpaceX to provide funding.

This move comes shortly after Musk, along with a group of AI researchers and executives, called for a pause in the development of systems more powerful than OpenAI’s GPT-4, citing concerns about the potential risks to society. The Financial Times also reported that Musk has secured thousands of graphics processing units from NVIDIA, which power the computing required for intensive tasks such as AI and high-end graphics.

Musk is a co-founder of OpenAI, which was established as a non-profit organization in 2015. However, he stepped down from the company’s board in 2018.
