Audiophile brand Moondrop, known for its high-quality in-ear monitors (IEMs) and audio products, has announced its first foray into the smartphone market with the MIAD 01. The name itself, which stands for Mobile Internet Audio Device, suggests a strong emphasis on audio-first capabilities.

The teaser image of the MIAD 01 showcases a sleek white colorway with a unique striated finish, giving the phone a premium and distinctive look. The camera module, located on the top left corner of the phone, features a dual-camera system along with the Moondrop branding.

One of the most notable features of the MIAD 01 is the inclusion of not one, but two headphone jacks. While neither jack is visible in the teaser image, Moondrop has confirmed that the MIAD 01 will feature both a 4.4mm balanced audio output and a 3.5mm single-ended output with microphone support. This dual-jack setup is a rare feature in modern smartphones, and it caters to the needs of audiophiles who prefer wired headphones for their listening experience.

The teaser image also reveals the power and volume buttons, which are finished in a vibrant orange color to match the other orange accents on the phone. The phone’s design appears to feature flat sides with sharp corners, giving it a minimalist and modern look.

Moondrop first hinted at the MIAD 01 back in February when a new smartphone category appeared on the company’s website. The page, which remains unchanged at the time of writing, features the MIAD 01 wordmark along with a “coming soon” sign. Fans and enthusiasts can expect the page to be updated with the new teaser image soon.

Moondrop’s expansion into the smartphone market is a significant step for the company, which has built a strong reputation in the audio industry for its high-quality IEMs and other audio products. The MIAD 01 seems to be a logical extension of the company’s audio-first approach, following its recent foray into mechanical keyboards with integrated audiophile-grade audio output.

While the MIAD 01 represents a significant leap from IEMs and keyboards, Moondrop’s expertise in audio technology and design suggests that the company is well-positioned to deliver a high-quality audio experience on a mobile device.
