For gamers craving an even deeper integration between their digital entertainment obsession and everyday spending habits, Microsoft has supercharged its offerings. After months of beta testing through its Xbox Insider program, the tech giant is launching the Xbox Mastercard credit card across the United States.

This no-annual-fee card, issued through a partnership with Barclays, translates everyday purchases into virtual rewards tailored for the Xbox ecosystem. Every dollar spent generates points that can be redeemed for digital games, add-ons, subscription fees, console purchases, and accessories bearing that iconic green ‘X’ logo.

The earning structure is multi-tiered, incentivizing specific purchase categories. Cardholders rake in 5x points on eligible Microsoft Store products, 3x points on popular streaming services like Netflix and Disney+, as well as food delivery giants like GrubHub and DoorDash. All other purchases yield a 1x point accrual rate.

However, Microsoft wasn’t content just replicating standard retail credit card rewards. In conjunction with the nationwide launch, they’ve stacked on additional gamer-centric perks:

New and existing cardholders can earn two 3-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate codes to gift to friends or family after spending $7,000 within the first year of account opening. This provides an easy entry point for persuading loved ones to join the Xbox ecosystem.

Cardmembers are automatically upgraded to Level 2 status in Microsoft’s Rewards program, accelerating the earning rate for redeemable points across the company’s products and services.

A 3-month Spotify Premium subscription is included as well, allowing gamers to boost their audio experience while slaying dragons or capturing territory.

Finally, Barclays is providing educational resources on financial fundamentals like credit scores, fraud prevention, and budgeting through its “Money Basics” platform.

The physical Xbox Mastercard itself can be customized with one of five “iconic” designs, or even personalized with the cardholder’s Xbox Gamertag for maximum geek cred.
