Microsoft just made it easier to get your hands on fresh Windows preview builds – and if you’re a tinkerer or a tech enthusiast, this one’s for you.
The Windows Insider Program team announced on May 1, 2026, that they’re now committing to releasing ISOs available for download alongside regularly scheduled builds. This means that every time a new Windows Insider Preview Build drops, you’ll be able to grab the ISO file right away without waiting around or hunting for workarounds.
This change came directly from user feedback. A lot of Windows Insiders had been voicing that ISOs are their preferred way to install preview builds – whether it’s for a clean install, setting up a virtual machine, or just having a local copy they can use without relying on Windows Update. Microsoft listened, and now they’re making ISOs a consistent part of the release process across all versions of the Beta and Experimental channels.
To grab an ISO for any Windows Insider Preview Build, you just head over to the official Windows Insider Preview Downloads page on Microsoft’s website. It’s a straightforward process – no need to dig through forums or rely on unofficial sources anymore. That’s a pretty big quality-of-life win for anyone doing regular testing or development work on preview builds.
