To make image editing more accessible and efficient, Microsoft is rolling out an exciting new feature in its trusted Paint application. This latest addition enables users to effortlessly remove backgrounds from images with just a single click, a move that’s set to transform how we use Paint in the Windows ecosystem.

This game-changing feature is currently in testing and is available exclusively to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels, with version 11.2306.30.0. The introduction of the background removal tool is a significant step forward in simplifying the often complex process of isolating subjects in images from their surroundings.

How to Use the Tool

For those eager to give it a try, it’s a breeze. Open an image in Paint, and you’ll find the new background removal button conveniently placed on the left side of the Paint toolbar. A single click on this button, and magic happens. Paint will automatically detect the primary subject in your image and neatly remove the background. If you prefer a hands-on approach, you can also manually select the background portion for removal, giving you more control over the process.

Traditionally, Paint has been the go-to application for quick image adjustments like cropping, resizing, and adding annotations. However, for more advanced tasks like background removal, users had to turn to third-party software, which often came with their own set of limitations.

For instance, the popular graphic design tool Canva locked background removal behind a paywall, making it less accessible for users seeking a free and efficient solution. Similarly, Adobe Express, a powerful image editing tool, required users to create an account before they could use the background removal feature. This not only added complexity but also wasted valuable time.

By incorporating background removal directly into Paint, Microsoft has taken a significant step toward addressing these issues. This integration streamlines the image editing process, saving users time and effort while eliminating the need for additional applications or extra fees. It’s a win-win for Paint users.

What’s Next?

But Microsoft isn’t stopping there. In addition to the background removal tool, there are reports of other exciting innovations on the horizon for Paint. One of them is a text-to-image generator, although details are scarce at the moment. This hints at an exciting future for Paint, suggesting that it’s poised to become even more versatile and creative.
