Microsoft is unleashing the power of artificial intelligence to consumers worldwide with the launch of its new Copilot Pro subscription service. For $20 per month, Copilot Pro provides AI-enhanced versions of popular Microsoft Office apps, priority access to the latest AI models from OpenAI, and tools to build your own AI apps.

The star of the show is integration with Microsoft’s Copilot AI assistant across Office apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Subscribers can summon Copilot in Office apps on Windows, Mac, web, and iPad to get AI-powered help with documents. Copilot can rephrase paragraphs in Word, generate new text on command, summarize long documents, create entire PowerPoint presentations based on short prompts, analyze data and visualize it with charts in Excel, and even help write and reply to emails in Outlook.

The experience is similar to what has been available to business customers since November, with AI-powered slideshow creation being the main missing feature. Copilot Pro also provides priority access to OpenAI‘s latest AI models like GPT-4 Turbo to improve response times. Subscribers can switch between models to balance speed and accuracy.

Beyond Office, Copilot Pro includes an upgraded image creator using DALL-E models with higher-quality outputs in new landscape formats. It also lets users create custom AI apps with Copilot GPT Builder to automate workflows. More features are slated to come in regular updates.

To access Copilot Pro’s features, consumers need an existing Microsoft 365 Personal or Home subscription plus the $20 monthly Copilot Pro upgrade. For non-365 subscribers, it still provides priority AI model access and creation tools.

So for consumers seeking more AI power for work and home, Copilot Pro puts next-gen assistance at their fingertips across Office. Microsoft is betting people will shell out a little extra to offload drudgery to the latest AI. Only time will tell if Copilot Pro catches on as part of subscribers’ monthly bundles.
