The metaverse is often described as a combination of virtual and mixed-reality worlds accessed via browsers or headsets, enabling real-time interactions across distances. It’s also characterized as a network of interconnected digital spaces offering experiences impossible in the physical world, emphasizing social presence. Some define it as a 3D version of the internet, or “the next evolution of the internet”. Examples of current metaverses include Fortnite, Roblox, and Decentraland, each with its own access, avatars, interactions, and currency.
