For Meta Quest owners who’ve been longing for a decent way to watch Netflix in VR, the wait is almost over. While Netflix itself isn’t revamping its outdated Quest app, Meta is stepping in to provide a much-needed solution: Netflix streaming through the Meta Quest’s web browser.

This is a game-changer for VR movie nights. Imagine settling into a virtual theater, complete with a curved screen for an immersive experience, and firing up your favorite Netflix show in high-quality. No more grainy, low-res viewing – the browser support will allow you to switch between a flat screen and a more cinematic curved view, putting you right in the heart of the action.

Let’s rewind a bit. Up until now, watching Netflix on the Quest was, frankly, a disappointment. The official Netflix app, launched back in 2019, offered a measly 480p resolution and hadn’t seen any updates in ages. The Quest’s web browser, adding insult to injury, actually blocked Netflix altogether.

This forced some resourceful Quest users to get creative. Sideloading the Netflix Android app was one attempted workaround, while others resorted to using the Virtual Desktop mode’s browser to access Netflix. Thankfully, with the upcoming update to the Quest’s browser app (expected “in the coming days”), these workarounds will become a thing of the past.

This isn’t the only exciting feature on the horizon for Meta Quest. Multitasking is about to get a boost with background audio support. Now you can minimize that music app and keep the tunes going without interruption. The Quest 3 is also getting some love, with improvements to the passthrough feature (allowing you to see your real-world surroundings without taking off the headset), support for external microphones, and even new wrist buttons.
