Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, has announced a significant update to its user interface. This new layout, which began rolling out on January 28, 2025, aims to make navigation more intuitive by consolidating various menu options into a single, side-mounted menu panel.
Traditionally, Max users have navigated through the app via a top horizontal bar, which included tabs like Home, Series, Movies, HBO, B/R Sports, and News. With the latest update, these categories, along with others, have been shifted to a vertical menu on the left side of the screen. This redesign not only declutters the top of the interface but also integrates with existing menu items such as Search, My Stuff, Profiles, and Settings.

The updated design places all these options on a left sidebar, making for a cleaner, more accessible browsing experience. This move is not just about aesthetics; it’s about enhancing user interaction with the service.
One of the headline features of this update is the introduction of the “What’s New” tab. This page is designed to act as a one-stop shop for users interested in the latest content additions to Max. It will feature movies and TV shows that have recently been added to the platform, alongside announcements for upcoming releases. But it’s not all about what’s new; this tab will also signal when content is scheduled to leave, giving viewers a heads-up before their favorite shows or movies disappear.
Another noteworthy addition is the “Categories” tab. This new menu item is set to be a game-changer for content discovery by allowing users to explore the vast library by genre, thematic collections, or even specific brands. Whether you’re in the mood for a sci-fi marathon or want to dive into a particular director’s collection, this feature should make the process much more user-friendly.
