Marvel fans, get excited: Disney+ has a new animated Black Panther series in the works. Titled Eyes of Wakanda, the show will take viewers on a journey into the mysterious nation’s past to follow a group of Wakandan warriors tasked with retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts around the world.

Announced at a Disney+ event on Monday, Eyes of Wakanda is being developed by Marvel Studios and overseen by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. The series aims to explore Wakandan history and culture by focusing on some of its brave, globetrotting defenders.

“Throughout Wakandan history, brave warriors have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts,” reads the show’s logline. “This is their story.”

For fans still mourning the loss of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020, the news of a new animated show set in his character’s iconic homeland is likely bittersweet yet welcome. It suggests that despite Boseman’s devastating absence, the Black Panther’s legacy will continue.

Last year’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which saw Boseman’s sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) take up the Black Panther mantle, was a box office smash success. Now, Between Wright’s ascendant Shuri and the upcoming Eyes of Wakanda, the adventures in Wakanda aren’t slowing down anytime soon.

Eyes of Wakanda joins a stacked lineup of upcoming Marvel shows on Disney+, including spinoffs of Hawkeye and WandaVision. After a year of emotional upheaval in Wakanda, Eyes of Wakanda promises to show fans the nation’s defenders are as formidable as ever. The wait for this exciting new series begins now.
