Earlier this month, leaked press images offered a first look at Lenovo’s wild transparent laptop concept. Now, just days before the Mobile World Congress kicks off in Barcelona, notorious leaker Evan Blass has provided another glimpse of the futuristic device.
The new press photo shows two of the concept laptops sitting on a desk, with the internal components of one unit visible through the transparent display of the other. From these images, it’s clear Lenovo is experimenting with more than just a see-through screen. The laptops also feature a touch-sensitive keyboard and touchpad that lie completely flush with the rest of the chassis.
A stylus can be seen next to one of the units, suggesting users will be able to write or draw directly on the transparent display. The minimalist wallpaper further indicates these are Windows machines, likely running Microsoft‘s latest Windows 11 operating system.
Of course, this is still just a concept, albeit a very intriguing one. Lenovo has a history of showcasing forward-looking prototypes at trade shows like Mobile World Congress without ever actually bringing those devices to market.
For example, last year the company unveiled a rollable laptop concept whose screen could unfurl from a 12.7-inch landscape orientation to a taller 15.3-inch portrait display. But there’s been no mention of that device entering production. Odds are this new transparent laptop will face the same fate.
Still, concepts like this offer a glimpse into the creative thinking happening behind the scenes at Lenovo. And certain aspects of these designs often make their way into real products further down the road. The transparent screen and virtual keyboard could be early experiments for future generations of laptops and tablets.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see if Lenovo officially unveils its transparent laptop at Mobile World Congress next week. And if it does, whether this visually stunning product remains merely a concept or someday becomes a device consumers can actually buy. But it’s an exciting idea that pushes the boundaries of what a laptop can look like and do.
