A spinoff series centered around Knuckles the Echidna, the hotheaded friend of video game icon Sonic the Hedgehog, is set to premiere on Paramount+ streaming on April 26th.
Titled simply ‘Knuckles,’ the six-episode series stars Idris Elba as the voice of the titular red echidna. It picks up after the events of 2022’s ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2‘ film, which featured Knuckles making his live-action debut.
The new trailer reveals Knuckles adjusting to small-town life in Green Hills with Sonic and Tails, described as having become an “alien family” to their human friend Maddie (played by Tika Sumpter). But Knuckles remains a “vengeance-hungry warrior” not quite suited for normalcy.
He soon embarks on a globe-trotting adventure with new friend and cop Wade Whipple (played by Adam Pally). They face off against new villains, former associates of the evil Dr. Robotnik (played by Jim Carrey), who want to exploit Knuckles’ formidable abilities.
With lots of flashy action sequences teased, the series looks to capitalize on Knuckles’ rough-and-tumble fighting style from the games. The brief 6-episode run appears aimed at tide over fans until the character returns to theaters in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, now in development.
‘Knuckles’ also stars Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor and Game of Thrones alum Rory McCann as new antagonists. It premieres April 26, only on Paramount+.
A streaming service that features various networks and studios owned by Paramount Global (formerly ViacomCBS), including MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, CMT, SHOWTIME, Paramount Network, and Paramount Pictures.
