Apple today announced the new iPhone 14 and ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus at its “Far out” event, which comes in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes and have the same look as the iPhone 13 but with improved cameras, faster performance, and satellite connectivity.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus can connect to satellite networks in emergencies where typical cell towers may not be accessible. Using communication satellites, the ‌iPhone 14‌ and ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus can guide consumers to aim properly at satellites as they travel in orbit. Within the Messages app, messages sent using the new feature will show up as grey.

The iPhone 14 and the new iPhone 14 Plus have the same general design as the iPhone 13, however, the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini has been replaced by a larger 6.7-inch model. The Retina XDR OLED display on both devices has True Tone, Haptic Touch, and a maximum brightness of 1200 nits. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus share the same A15 Bionic chip which we have already seen in the iPhone 13 models, which offers better performance.

Compared to the iPhone 13, Apple is adding new camera features to the back. The new 12MP main camera on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus has a larger sensor and larger pixels at 1.9 µm pixels. The new larger sensor makes Night-mode exposure twice as fast as before and enables for a 49% improvement in low-light capture. A new 12MP front-facing camera with autofocus is available. The “Photonic Engine” is another new feature seen on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus price & availability

The 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB versions of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will be available in midnight, blue, starlight, and purple colors. The new iPhone 14 variants go up for pre-order on Friday, September 9, directly at Apple.com and shipping starts on Friday, September 16. Customers will start receiving the larger iPhone 14 Plus on Friday, October 7.
