Instagram is rolling out a bunch of cool new features that are sure to jazz up your messaging game. Here’s what’s coming down the pipeline:

First up, photo editing is getting a major upgrade. Now, when you send photos via DM, you’ll be able to add a personal touch with drawing tools and stickers, just like you can with Instagram Stories. Want to spice up your pics with some doodles or custom stickers? Go for it! You can even create your own custom stickers from your photos to make your DMs stand out.

Instagram is also introducing new chat themes (“Notebook” and “Foliage”) to make your DMs look even cooler. Picture this: a cozy fall theme or a special design to celebrate pop star Sabrina Carpenter’s latest album. And here’s a fun little addition: you can now add a birthday cake icon to your Notes. Yep, that’s the little status update at the top of your DM inbox. Perfect for celebrating those special days!

Direct messaging has become a big deal for Instagram, according to Adam Mosseri, the head of the company. In fact, messaging is such a big focus that it even influences how content is ranked on the platform. Back in July, Mosseri mentioned that the amount of times a post is shared via DMs plays a role in its visibility. So, if you want your content to reach more people, make sure it’s something your friends would want to share.
