The day many streaming fans have awaited is finally here – Hulu and Disney Plus have officially joined forces, ushering in a new era of entertainment. After months of anticipation and beta testing, the long-awaited streaming bundle has arrived, offering viewers a seamless way to access content from both platforms under one virtual roof.
In celebration of this momentous union, Disney Plus has undergone a visual transformation, adorning a new logo with a bluish-green hue that pays homage to the colors of its newly acquired partner. Even the startup audio mark has been revamped, now featuring a more orchestral flair befitting the grand occasion.
While the core experience remains largely unchanged from the beta version, with Hulu existing as a distinct hub alongside Marvel movies and other Disney-branded content within the Disney Plus app for U.S. viewers (Hulu’s offerings remain exclusive to the States), the official announcement and online reports have shed light on the intricacies of this partnership.
At the heart of the bundle lies a range of subscription options tailored to suit varying viewer preferences. For those seeking a more economical option, the standard subscription with ads will set viewers back $9.99 per month – a mere $2 premium over the existing Disney Plus Basic plan. Alternatively, ad-averse viewers can opt for the premium, commercial-free plan at $19.99 monthly.
Not to be outdone, Disney has also unveiled a pair of Trio subscriptions that incorporate ESPN Plus into the mix. The Trio Basic bundle, priced at $14.99 per month, combines all three services with the caveat of including advertisements. For those seeking an uninterrupted viewing experience, the Trio Premium plan, at $24.99 per month, offers a commercial-free indulgence.
Of course, for those who prefer to keep their streaming experiences separate, the option to purchase individual subscriptions to each platform remains available.
However, not all of Hulu’s content will make the transition to Disney Plus due to “content licensing restrictions,” as reported by Variety. Popular shows such as Modern Family and Love Island will remain absent from the Disney Plus repertoire, at least for the time being.
From March 27th, Disney Plus will begin recommending Hulu content to its viewers, a strategic move designed to entice them to invest in the new bundle. The company’s developers have also fine-tuned the service’s search engine to enhance content personalization, ensuring a more tailored viewing experience.
