The streaming wars are heating up, and Disney is gearing up for a major overhaul of its Disney+ app. As the company prepares to fully integrate Hulu’s vast content library into its flagship streaming service, the iconic Disney+ interface is getting a fresh coat of green paint.

Since December 2023, a select group of Disney+ subscribers have been privy to the “Hulu on Disney+” beta program. This early glimpse allowed bundle subscribers to access a dedicated Hulu hub within the Disney+ app, offering a tantalizing taste of the thousands of movies and TV series soon to be available.

The beta program aimed to smooth the transition by allowing users to seamlessly navigate between Disney’s own content and Hulu’s extensive library, all without the need to hop between separate apps. As Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed earlier this month, the Hulu integration is set to exit its beta phase later in March, marking a significant milestone in the company’s streaming strategy.

In anticipation of the full Hulu integration, the Disney+ app listings on various platforms, including Roku, LG, Microsoft, and Samsung, have recently undergone a visual overhaul. The once-familiar blue Disney+ logo has been replaced with a striking blue and green variant, hinting at the impending fusion of the two streaming titans.

Disney’s decision to adopt a green color scheme for its Disney+ app is a strategic move to foster a unified streaming experience. By visually intertwining Hulu’s identity with Disney+, the company aims to reshape consumer perceptions, encouraging viewers to embrace the two services as a cohesive offering rather than separate entities.

This rebranding effort extends beyond the app’s visual aesthetics. Internationally, the Disney+ logo is also transitioning to a green hue, potentially foreshadowing a rebranding of the “Star” hub to “Hulu” or a broader effort to streamline the service’s global identity.

While Disney’s intentions behind the green makeover are clear – to seamlessly merge Hulu into the Disney+ ecosystem – the move raises questions about potential consumer confusion. The company’s previous forays into color rebranding, such as the initial purple hue at launch, followed by various shades of blue, have met with mixed reactions from users accustomed to the iconic Disney brand identity.
