Google just announced that it is adding over 800 free channels to its Google TV software. The update will be available for Chromecast streaming devices and select TVs from Sony, CL, Hisense, and Philips. This move is aimed at setting Google apart from its competitors, such as Roku, Apple, and Amazon, and will enable Google to attract users who are looking for free streaming services.
The channels that will be available on Google TV are a compilation of existing free TV services like Fox’s Tubi, Paramount Global’s Pluto TV, and Haystack News. Google will be integrating these channels into the “Live” tab, which will allow users to access content from channels such as NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX.
This update will only be available in the US on all Google TV devices. However, eligible Android TV devices will be able to access the new TV guide and free channels later this year.
